Embrace the Wonders of the Outdoors
Steamboat Springs is an outdoor lover’s paradise, offering a wealth of recreational opportunities for visitors of all ages and interests. During the winter months, the town transforms into a winter wonderland known for its legendary Champagne Powder® snow. Hit the slopes of the Steamboat Ski Resort, renowned for its varied terrain and world-class skiing and snowboarding. The resort also offers other winter activities like snowshoeing, snowmobiling, and sleigh rides.
Steamboat Springs unveils a new set of outdoor adventures as the snow melts and the summer sun shines. Hike or bike along the vast network of scenic trails, including the famous Yampa River Core Trail, which follows the picturesque Yampa River through town. Explore Fish Creek Falls, a stunning 280-foot waterfall, or enjoy fishing, rafting, and tubing on the Yampa River. For a more relaxing experience, head to the Strawberry Park Hot Springs and soak in the natural mineral pools surrounded by beautiful wilderness.
Fish Creek Falls
Fish Creek Falls served as one of the remarkable destinations I had the pleasure of visiting. If you’re seeking a more immersive hiking experience, starting at the lower parking lot and ascending upward is recommended. However, for a quick and effortless glimpse of the falls, the upper parking lot provides a convenient option, requiring less than half a mile of hiking. The waterfall itself offers a serene and awe-inspiring spectacle.
During my adventure, I also embarked on a 1.5-mile hike to the old Uranium mine. While the mine itself may not be particularly impressive, consisting of weathered tracks and barred entrances, the vistas along the hike were undeniably breathtaking. Along the trail, I encountered a lively marmot scurrying about. Additionally, there is another 2.5-mile one-way hike leading to another waterfall, as well as a 6.5-mile one-way trek to Long Lake, both of which, unfortunately, eluded my exploration due to time constraints.

Delve into Western Heritage
Immerse yourself in the rich western heritage of Steamboat Springs by exploring its vibrant downtown and embracing its cowboy culture. Meander through the charming streets lined with historic buildings, boutique shops, art galleries, and inviting restaurants. Don’t miss a visit to the Tread of Pioneers Museum, which showcases the town’s fascinating history through engaging exhibits and interactive displays.
To experience the authentic Western spirit, plan your trip around one of Steamboat Springs’ many signature events. Witness thrilling rodeo action at the Steamboat Springs Pro Rodeo Series during the summer months, or attend the Winter Carnival, a legendary celebration of winter sports and Western tradition. These events capture the essence of Steamboat Springs’ unique heritage and offer a memorable experience for visitors.
- Indulge in Culinary Delights and Local Brews: Steamboat Springs is a food lover’s paradise, boasting a diverse culinary scene that caters to all tastes and preferences. From cozy cafes to fine dining establishments, the town offers a range of options to satisfy your cravings. Indulge in hearty western cuisine, savor locally sourced ingredients, or enjoy international flavors at one of the many acclaimed restaurants.
No visit to Steamboat Springs would be complete without sampling its craft beer scene. The town is home to several craft breweries that produce exceptional beers, reflecting the vibrant and innovative spirit of Colorado’s brewing culture. Take a brewery tour and savor the distinct flavors of Steamboat’s craft beers, or relax with a pint at one of the cozy brewpubs in town.
My Town Exploration
Before embarking on my hike to Fish Creek Falls, I had the opportunity to explore the town a bit. It was a delightful experience. In the heart of the town, a lively farmers market awaited, brimming with an abundance of locally sourced, fresh produce. As I strolled through the market, I couldn’t resist indulging in the array of souvenirs, captivating handmade jewelry, delectable food stalls, and a captivating collection of handcrafted leather and wood items.
After thoroughly immersing myself in the vibrant atmosphere of the farmer’s market, I decided to pay a visit to the renowned Mountain Tap Brewery. There, I savored the taste of exceptional craft beer brewed onsite. Complementing my beverage, I indulged in mouthwatering wood-fired oven pizzas that surpassed my expectations.
The combination of delicious food and refreshing beer was the perfect reward after a long and demanding week at work.
